It's LENTEN SZN!!!

Are you wondering why or have you seen people with ash in the shape of a cross on their foreheads? Have you heard the term “Lent” floating around? Heard folks talk about giving up their favorite foods and drinks? That’s because its LENTEN SZN? What is Lent you say? I’m glad you asked!

What is Lent?

Lent is a Christian time of reflection that is usually celebrated from March 2 to April 16. These days commemorate the 40 days and nights spent in the desert fasting and praying to avoid temptation from Satan (the Sundays aren’t counted). Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, where some Christians and Catholics wear ashes on their forehead in the shape of a cross to symbolize sin. Ash Wednesday is a day of repentance, where Christians confess their sins and profess their devotion to God.

The Lenten season is a time set aside to reflect on the sacrifice and suffering of Jesus Christ. Some choose to sacrifice or fast from their favorite foods or drinks during this time to show their devotion and commitment. Others use this time to add a spiritual discipline into their routine such as prayer, Bible reading, or increased church attendance.

If you are interested in starting to observe Lenten, you can start by choosing an item to fast from and choosing something spiritual to focus in on for the remaining days of Lent. Here are some ideas for sacrifice:

· Coffee/Caffeine

· Sweets

· Alcohol

· Social Media fast

· Meat

Lenten season can be a very important time of renewal and reflection for those that choose to participate. I personally haven’t ever observed Lent before, but have chosen to start observing it this year by spending more time in God’s Word and in prayer. Will you be participating in Lenten season this year?
